Topic: The Japanese Traditional Matchbox "White Peach" is Nostalgic!

This is not my design work but I introduce this "White Peach" matchbox of Japanese traditional graphic design. Because I like this old school make fire and nostalgic, typical and traditional Japanese graphic design since about 100 years ago. It was before first world war, changed MEIJI period from EDO pireod in Japan. Meiji Era is a time of the Industrial Revolution of Japan. Till then, the feudal rule system of the Edo period collapsed by resistance. Then place name Tokyo changed from Edo. The Edo Shogunate was not able to oppose the influence from a foreign country because of the national isolation consciousness. The old persons of the old idea who tied the topknot underwent changed of power to the young man, they got to know the foreign country.

This white peach trade mark design are most popular in Japanese matchbox fan club. It looks like a Allman Brothers Band graphics. I remember images the southern rock music and American country blues music. The matchbox was good foreign country export work for Japanese before 100 years ago. This white peach designed and produced by Benzo "King of Japanese Matches" Takigawa on his company Daido Matches. Many patterns of a peach are designed by Japan of 100 years ago, have a tradition of southern barbarian presentation in China, and were briskly exported to China from Japan.

Topic: ZABUTON the Japanese Floor Cushion

This is a Japanese cushion for sitting on the floor called ZABUTON. Japanese people sit down on a tatami traditionally, putting down this ZABUTON. It is indispensable to the tearoom in Japan which you also know. We chose this ZABUTON for the relaxation of a bedroom. A pattern like the quartz often looked at in the time of a mid-century by beautiful Burgundy like the wine of a deep taste. And this rope pattern mostly seen to the Edo period. The motif of the rope used for a fabric of Japan has a meaning. A rope is used, when connecting something or drawing something near. In a pattern, it is meaningful in "Drawing happiness near at hand." So, in Japan, a rope is an auspicious pattern. The history of the rope in Japan is old and goes back 16500 years before the present age. The Japanese who was living a primitive life had given the rope pattern to earthenware. The rope was used also for a ninja's communication of information.

Saturn and his Ring are Most Beautiful Graphics.

This Saturn photograph was borrowed from National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I am not taking this photograph. Not a color but monochrome cool appearance stimulated my inspiration. I liked Saturn in the solar system planet from young time. The balance of the appearance and a beautiful ring pierced my heart which was a schoolchild those days. Saturn is a big planet to the next of Jupiter in the solar system. This planet where most was covered by gas does not have a concept called surface of the earth. That is, there is no boundary line of the ground and empty like the earth. Most gas is hydrogen. Gas is light. Saturn has the 62 moons. The biggest Titan in the satellite of Saturn is larger than Mercury. A human body is not affected even if man inhales hydrogen. Influence does not have a helium in a human body, either. The atmosphere of Saturn does not affect a human body. However, since there is no oxygen, an oxygen mask is required. Since it is 100 times the earth, if muscle training of the gravity is carried out, it may be satisfactory. But, there is no ground. Therefore, it falls toward the center. Continuation of Surprise!!! The Nerd's world!!

We visited in an event called Comic City Fukuoka on Sunday. My wife and me does not like the nerd who is Japanese culture. However, since he liked anime and comics, the wife's daughter escorted. The Comic City was held in the Yahoo! dome of Fukuoka. The Yahoo! dome is a baseball stadium representing Fukuoka. Comic City is a market where 4000 shops sell a coterie magazine known "DOJINSHI". The number of visitors exceeds it far. An admission fee is 900 yen. Registration of costume play is also performed.

We woke up at 7:00 a.m. for 11:00 a.m. to opening of an event. It rained. We rode on the highway and arrived in 1 hour and a half. Rain did not stop at Fukuoka 60 km away from our place. Since it is Sunday, it is heavy-trafficked. We reached the Yahoo Dome and parked the car in the parking lot. Surprise of the first appeared immediately. A car hardly exists in the parking lot there. Because, it is a gathering of people without the custom of riding in a car. They lived in the inconvenient place when we did not have a car, such a spectacle was seen for the first time. Since it lives in the city, a car is unnecessary. There are many people who like a train and a bus. We rose escalator and looked for the entrance gate. He accompanied the roof and we walked around the huge circular building so that it might not get wet to rain. In the building, many persons have already sat down and waited. We can see them over the glass. We were surprised. The roof of the dome-like building was accompanied and people were standing in the long line. We looked at people who stand in a line out of a roof, and I decided to bring an umbrella from a car. While 5 minutes, I brought the umbrella from the car, people's sequence was increasing. It was not less than 200 m from the head of a sequence up to the tail end. although we were unavoidable and the tail end was aimed at, arrive very much -- it does not become precocious. People have stood in a line one after another behind which was the tail end us. I decided to pass a wife and a daughter an umbrella and for him to get wet. Since I wore the coat of the nylon material and the hat was also worn, it seldom got wet. We waited in rain about 20 minutes. The wife was ill-humored. Soon, we were able to pay 900 yen of the price for a ticket, and were able to come in. The thick pamphlet was able to be got. When it entered into the building, there was a stand which curry and ramen noodles sell. We were glad for the side to have had a smoking place. We were able to see many people to the ground which is the hall from the stand entrance. It seems that there are 5000 or more persons. A part of stand seat is opened wide and can sit down. The desk extempore on the mound where baseball should be performed is put in order usually.

Movie Review of the "KAMUI GAIDEN"

This post is a review of the ninja movie of "KAMUI GAIDEN". The original story from manga comic "Kamui Gaiden" by Sanpei Shirato in 1965. New and powerful creater Kankuro Kudo in Japan took charge of the screenwriter. I like movie that he directed. "Kamui" is hero's name. "Gaiden" meaning of another legend. There is a story of the main named The Legend of Kamui in the manga comic. Hero's Kamui doesn't appear so much in this story. The name of Kamui is from word "God" of native people Ainu in the north of Japan. In The Legend of Kamui, the story starts from the Kamui birth. Infancy Kamui appeared from the undermost layer of the feudal society in Edo period (17 century). There was a discrimination class named four occupation in Edo period. Kamui was a class that did not enter the four occupation named Hinin. Hinin was a class under the farmer. Their work was dismantlement of the dying farming oxen and horses, skin and leather work, executioner, etc... There was a lot of public execution in Edo period. Samurai judges the criminal. Hinin work is stabs the criminal to death with the spear. Kamui that disliked discrimination and feudal society pursued strength. Kamui received Ninja's scout. There were a variety methods join to the ninja organization. The technique for forging for myself was expected as for Kamui and the scout was done from the ninja executive. The infant of just the birth might be abducted. The elder sister of Kamui married the farmer. The Legend of Kamui is a story of the farmer, the merchant, the samurai, and the ninja who lives in discrimination and the feudal society. Kamui Gaiden(The another legend of Kamui) is a story that drew the technique and fight of Kamui that escapes from the ninja organization from which it impossible escape absolutely. The ninja doesn't choose the means for the behavior objective. It wins one's end secretly like the spy agent. The technology doesn't become a comparison thing at samurai's military arts level. The ninja organization has an absolute instruction system. When the instruction is disregarded, it is killed. Moreover, it is killed when seceding from the ninja group. There is little contingency fee to construction. The ninja controls feelings. When it fails in the duty and it is restrained by the enemy, it commits suicide. The ninja uses the character of the animal and the plant.

This is review of my favolite movie "ZATOICHI" series. Shintaro Katsu was famouse action star in Japan. He already died in 1997. Also Shintaro Katsu was prodecer, singer, director and drug freaks. He was arrested by possession cocaine and marijuana in the Hawaii Honolulu International Airport in 1990. He was concealing the drug in the underwear. Shintaro Katsu said, "It was when noticing it" the drug that existed in underwear. After the arrest he said, "I will not take underwear because not do same crime in the future". Zatoichi is his most important work. Zatoichi is a drama by which blind masseur's Iatoichi fights with the gangster. Zatoichi is expert of the Iai. Zatoichi in addition loses uselessness in having it in the inverted hand of Katana the movement of the hand. The ear is sharp though he is sightless. The expert of the sword of Japan did not rely on eyes, and concentrated the spirit. If this technique is acquired, it is invincibility. The name of the technique is called "Shingan". The meaning is "Eyes of the mind". Zatoichi is a story of the massage master who travels. He rolled in the trouble. Zatoichi uses the sword concealed in the walking stick. Swordstick is called "Shikomi" in Japan. In the film "Zatoichi and Yojinbo" is Akira Kurosawa's "Yojinbo" "Tsubaki Sanjuro" starring Toshiro Mifune VS Zatoichi. About the most much remainder in impressions, Robert De Niro must suit the moustache, and be good-looking. Music Review of Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia

This post is a music review of GRATEFUL DEAD. GRATEFUL DEAD was formed in San Francisco in 1965. GRATEFUL DEAD was unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, jazz, psychedelia, and space rock and for live performances of long musical improvisation. GRATEFUL DEAD is only one in my favorite JAM BAND. Jerry Garcia is worshiped from DEAD HEADS godlike. Apparently, the origin of the name of GRATEFUL DEAD seems to have come from the Buddhism and Hinduism.

Review of the DOMINGO Hydrostone

Cigarettes were about $4 to excess for $5 recently in Japan. It is not possible to shake the smoking habit, because I am a habitual smoker. I changed from box cigarette to roll cigarette by myself. Music Review of Takkyu Ishino

I review the music of Takkyu Ishino this time. He released "Cruise" that was the original solo work after an interval of six years. He had been inventing a lot of masterpieces for 20 years with the unit (Pierre Taki & Takkyu Ishino) of Denki Groove. It is a mini album that collected the techno tracks that should be called a state-of-the-art electronica of the universal standard this time. 1. FEB4 is settled track never intense. Do ska, and the harmony of the melody of the trumpet and the saxophone like jazz and the sampled voices is exquisiteness. The body begins to move naturally. 5. Arek starts by the rhythm of the bass drum and high-hat cymbals of an average heavy electronica. A simple melody of the typical synthesizer used for the techno that appears gradually overlaps. "AKIRA" The Poptoonstudio Recommended Comics

Katsuhiro Otomo is cartoonist of the science fiction with delicate picture power that represents Japan with which touch and the throb feeling overflow. "AKIRA" is one of the comics that received a big influence when I am a high school student. Katsuhiro Otomo has the technique for quickly drawing person's movement and style.
